Law enforcement officers, firefighters and paramedics put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe. First responders’ unwavering dedication to serving the greater good inspires us to give back, especially when they are hurt on the job.
These real-life heroes face a high risk of work-related injuries due to their dangerous and unpredictable jobs. For instance, police officers are four times more likely to have a non-fatal work injury than the average full-time worker. They can also experience a longer time away from work because they must reach a higher level of recovery before resuming duties.
As personal injury lawyers, Johnson & Biscone takes care of the people who take care of us. We feel it’s our duty to pay it forward to those who selflessly serve us every day. From representing law enforcement officers in legal cases to supporting local unions, our firm offers a helpful hand to first responders across the state.
We were proud to sponsor a K-9 officer for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office in 2018. When Sgt. Curtis Whittington was seeking donations for a fulltime K-9 to work the county jail, we pulled our team together to fund the initiative. In his first few months on the job, Han the police dog found dangerous contraband and kept jail employees safe. We may never know exactly how many injuries Han’s presence prevented, but we do know the workers feel much safer. Several jail employees told us so when we brought them breakfast.
The Johnson & Biscone team also partnered with the Oklahoma City Fraternal Order of Police to donate food for statewide meetings and sponsored the lodge’s 50th anniversary celebration. We appreciate the incredible work the OKC FOP does to support police officers and their families, and we want officers to know we’ve got their backs, too.
To further show our commitment to first responders, we will continue to push for increased employment benefits and support elected officials who understand the value of providing the best for the people who keep us safe.
Let us know how we can serve you. Whether that service means fighting for your rights in the courtroom or supporting efforts that protect your safety, we’re always here when you need us.
